East Lothian Countryside Ranger Service are offering a Summer Explorers programme for young people aged 8-14 years old with a keen interest in East Lothian's varied countryside and wildlife.

A few updates for those pupils who are staying in Haddington for Activities Week  

S1 Day Trips information is now on the website (parental letter and consent form).

S2/3 Packages - still a few people to return their choices for the week, please get this done ASAP.  There will be pupils coming around harassing you to make choices!  Also please note a slight change has been made to the Explore Edinburgh package - check out the online booklet on the website to see this.

EY have re-opened 2 x spaces on their Business Apprenticeship in Tax starting in September 2018 in Edinburgh. The roles have no closing date and instead are filled on a first come, first served basis.

The Business Apprenticeship is a 5-year programme working towards the ICAS qualification with a starting salary up to £21,500.  Entry requirements are 5x Highers (any grades and can be taken over 2 years) and no formal tax, accounting or finance knowledge is required. All our work is performed in teams and so we are looking for people who are good team players.

The Public Library Service are looking for volunteers to help in branches over the Summer Holidays. You will be assisting with craft activities, helping kids choose books, talking to kids about the books they have read, and registering kids for the summer reading challenge and giving them their incentive, stickers etc.. 

They also want your help to plan the activities around the challenge and perhaps an activity you would like to run in the branch.

If you are interested in this opportunity, Caroline Messer, Senior Librarian, Young People Services, will be in Knox Academy Library at lunchtime THURSDAY 26th April 2018 to discuss this further with you.

All Italian Explorers are asked to remind parents/carers that there is a meeting as previously indicated on Wednesday 2 May 2018 at 7 pm in Knox Academy to give further information about the cross-curricular residential educational excursion.

All parents/carers should already have received notes from Meetings No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 with pupils.  Much of this information has already been actioned eg submitting EHICs.  However there is still information relevant, particularly arrangements for spending money.

Author John Young will visit Knox Academy on Monday 23rd April to discuss his book Farewell Tour of a Terminal Optimist. The event will be held in the library for all S3 pupils. You will have the chance to purchase the book following John's presentation and get your copy signed. Registration teachers have flyers about the book to distribute to you. Tempest Photography will be coming into school on Thursday 26 April 2018 to take a whole school photograph. This photograph only takes place every 7 years to allow every year group to have the opportunity to be part of it.

These photographs are always a good keepsake, marking the years of secondary school. Information about how to purchase the photographs, if you should wish to do so, will be sent home in due course.

Pupils should be dressed smartly, in full school dress code for this event. Senior pupils should be in their blazers and ties. All pupils should be wearing a white shirt, tie and all black trousers or skirts and shoes.

The consultation on the Draft Local Transport Strategy (LTS) and associated documents is now live on the Council's Consultation Hub covering the period from 2018 to 2024. The LTS outlines a range of problems and issues affecting Transport in East Lothian and what actions and measures it proposes to deal with these issues. The draft Strategy reflects the key role of transport and outlines plans for ongoing development taking into account the wider changes in East Lothian as detailed in the Local Development Plan. 

As well as the main draft LTS, there are a number of associated Plans which will deliver specific aspects of the overall Strategy - these are: 

  • The Road Asset Management Plan 
  • The Road Safety Plan 
  • The Active Travel Improvement Plan 
  • The Parking Management Strategy

We want to gather views on the draft Local Transport Strategy (and associated Plans). You can share your views on the East Lothian Consultations website. The draft LTS, associated Plans and SEA Environmental Report are available for inspection from Tuesday 3 April to Friday 11 May 2018. They can be viewed at all libraries and principal offices in East Lothian at John Muir House, Haddington and Brunton Hall, Musselburgh as well as the online consultation.

Due to popular demand, pupils who are attending the S1 residential trip to Ullswater will be able to purchase a hoodie (with personalised option available).  Should pupils wish a hoodie they must collect an order form from Mrs Cochrane by Friday 20 April 2018.  All orders must be returned and paid for in full by Friday 27 April 2018.

Hoodies are completely optional, and should you have any issues with the payment deadline, please contact Mrs Cochrane as soon as possible and by Friday 20 April 2018.
