Knox Academy S2 Football Team have been entered into the Lothians League with another 18 schools for this season. Training will begin 31st August (Thursday) on the back playing fields. If you are keen to join the football team please come along, everyone is welcome!
Many thanks to everyone that applied to be part of this year’s Knox Sports Council and Young Ambassador positions. We had many more numbers than ever applying this year and the quality of applications has been excellent. This has made life very tricky for the selecting committee but they have now made their final decisions for this year.

All pupils in S1 should have received information about applying for instrumental lessons in school. Remember that completed application forms should be returned to your Music teacher by Monday 4th September. If you have any questions about this, please speak to Miss Orr or Mr Johnston.
Any S6 pupils who are interested in leading the senior Environment Committee this year should submit a statement of motivation (max. 500 words) to Miss Laudi by Friday 1st September. Interviews will be held next week (date and time to be confirmed) and we are looking to select a committee leader as well as two deputes. The Environment Committee will take a lead role in this year's Eco-Schools initiatives. It's a great opportunity to not only build your leadership skills, but also to have an impact on the school community!

Wednesday is the final day for entries for positions in this year’s Knox Sports Council and also to become a Young Ambassadors for 2017 2018.
A panel will review the Sports Council applications and make their decisions based on the written applications.
For the positions of Young Ambassadors, we will consider all Sports Council Applications from pupils in S4, S5 and S6 and intend to run a short interview process on Thursday / Friday to make our final selections.
You can still collect your application from Mr Wands (or rpinted off from the attached doc) but these need to be in by 3pm On Wed 23rd August.
Drama Club returns on Tuesday 5th September in Drama Studio.
All S1-4 pupils are welcome; come along to play drama games and find out about a Christmas Production!

If you don't already know, the GREEN TEAM is Knox Academy's recycling club. We meet once a week to collect recycling from classrooms and we work to make Knox a more environmentally friendly place! It's a great way to get to know Knox better, it's a great way to meet other students, AND it's a great way to earn merits! We are looking for S1 students to get involved in the Green Team this year! If you'd like to join, please come to Miss Laudi's room (T1.2 in the French department) on Wednesday lunch time at 1:30pm. See you there!

Mrs Ingham would like ot see all the S1 pupils who get on the 158 Gifford Bus at the start of Interval in the Food Court Classroom (IT Room off the Food Court).
S1 pupils are reminded to hand in any return slips to the Decipher Assist letter (handed out during period 6 on Thursday), shouldbe handed to the Register teacher during Registration, or to Mrs Ingham during assembly on Monday.
No pupil should be out of class without an "out-of-class" slip or an appointment slip to see a member of the Guidance Staff. Guidance Staff will issue appointment slips and no pupil will be seen in class time without having made an appointment. If you need an appointment with a Guidance Teacher and you cannot find them (during registration, interval or lunchtime), let the Office know. Thank you. Mrs Ingham
Model United Nations is an activity in which participants assume the role of national ambassadors or representatives to debate and seek to solve global issues, Any UN body or agency can be simulated (the Security Council and General Assembly are the most popular). Some MUNs, last days and faithfully follow UN protocol, while others can take place for an hour.
It’s great fun, giving you the opportunity to meet new people. It also helps you develop and demonstrate key skills like public speaking, teamwork and negotiation which will look great on your CV.
Could any pupils interested in joining a Model UN group please come to a short meeting at break time on Monday 21st August in Ms Brannigan's room (RME 1). Thanks.
This year's Knox Academy Volunteering Fayre is fast approaching. In order for the morning to run smoothly I need some helpers to do things like show organisations to their tables, advertise Paired Reading and run the in-school options table. If anyone is willing please come and see Miss McBride asap. However, please be aware this is not just an excuse to get out of class, anything missed will need to be caught up and being out of class will need to be agreed with your class teacher ahead of time.
Girls in S1-S3, interested in rugby training on Thursdays after school, should come along to the meeting this Friday at break time in the PE classroom.

Sports Council:- Applications to be part of this year’s Sports Council & YA program are now available from S6 pupil Anya Wylie or Active Schools Co-ordinator Mr Wands.
We are looking for pupils from ALL Years to apply. Successful applicants will represent their year groups in helping to make Knox Sport Great.
Young Ambassadors:- We are also looking for pupils 2 x S4-S6th year pupils to become this year’s Young Ambassadors. Our Young Ambassadors lead our Sports Council in the delivery of everything Knox Sport. It really all about creating more and better opportunities for pupils to be participate in physical activity.

Start the year the way you mean to go on by checking your timetables and coming prepared with your instrument and music! (Brass pupils - no lessons on Monday, but Mr Robb will be back on Tuesday 22nd August)
