Academy of Music will be running a free week intensive course called Introduction to Employability in the Music Industry (Music Management) w/c 10th April.

The aim of the course is to help candidates develop their understanding of the requirements of the workplace, focusing on the challenges and requirements of working in this fast-paced environment. In addition, participants will be given a broad overview of what it means to be an artist manager in the music industry. Following an interview on the final day of the course, successful candidates will have the opportunity to take up a 1 week work experience with Post Electric Studio.

The one-week program offers applicants the opportunity to learn how to demonstrate their commitment, skills and motivation to prospective employers in the music industry. Those who successfully complete this short program will be awarded a SQA level 4 employability award and a level 6 Music Management module. You will also develop essential skills to help you gain employment in any area, including developing your confidence, communication skills and CV.

They are also offering another week intensive short course in Sound Production w/c the 10th of April. During this course they will work towards achieving a BTEC Level 3 Award in Sound Production. This program will give them hands on experience with Logic Pro X, microphones, midi recording and a host of other useful skills and knowledge that will help them in home recording or set them up for further study in Sound Production.

On successful completion, you will be awarded a BTEC Level 3 Award in Sound Production to evidence your new-found recording abilities and throughout the whole process you will receive guidance and support from one of AMS’s specialist trainers.

There will also be 4 separate courses starting in June on the following dates and will run for 6 sessions, with 1 session each week on your chosen day.

Wednesday 14th of June

Thursday 15th of June

Scottish Power are looking to recruit 28 young people between the ages of 16 – 19 to study at college either in the Midlothian or Glasgow areas with an August 2017 start.  Successful students will:

·         Gain a NC Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering

·         Receive 4 weeks of employer-led technical training at our training centre in Cumbernauld

·         Get paid £200 a month in sponsorship

·         Be given a full PPE kit for them to use and keep once the programme is finished

·         Be in with the chance of gaining full employment with Scottish Power as an Apprentice

The programme is only 6 months in length and will finish at the end of February 2018 with the top student being selected to move directly into a Craft Apprenticeship with Scottish Power in March 2018.

National Tyres and Autocare are looking to recruit an apprentice in Haddington.

The Apprentice will work towards Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Fitting. Training will be provided in house and the candidate will attend a number of seperate weeks away in a training centre .

Hours of work: 39.5    Salary: £153.85 per week   Holiday Entitlement: 30 days pro rata including 8 Bank Holidays.

THE JERICHO is now closed for the Easter break. We will be open again on Saturday 22nd April when we will have all the usual things on offer at the Nungate and Haddington Community Centre 7.15 – 9.15pm. East Lothian Arts Service is working in partnership with Marc Brew Dance Company to deliver an exciting new programme of Youth Arts activity in connection with their brand new work, Brewband. They are looking for a mix of dancers and musicians (ages S1-S6) to join them for a 3-day workshop during the Easter break to create a curtain raiser which will be performed ahead of the performance of Brewband in the Brunton Theatre on the evening of Saturday 29th April. S1 and S2 Girls Football - Youth Games

All girls interested in playing football at the Youth Games on May 11th, please attend a short meeting at THE BEGINNING OF BREAK today in the PE Classroom (Thursday 30th March. If there is enough interest we will run an hour long training session on a Thursdays (4:30 - 5:30) at the 3G at Whittingham drive. after the Easter break. If you want to be in the team you MUST make every effort to train / or tell the coaches why you can’t make it. If you have any questions please see Mr Wands or Emily Russell (S6).

It would be greatly appreciated if players who have already attended the previous girls football this year attended the meeting!

Gordon Guthrie Construction are based in Edinburgh and would like to offer a week’s work experience to someone who is interested in pursuing a career in quantity surveying.   This will involve some time spent in the office and some time out and about on sites.   Guthrie’s have various contracts in East Lothian and in Edinburgh.

The French Department will be carrying out the Final Talking Assessment Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 29th, Thursday 30th and Friday 31st. Pupils should not come into the French Department (outside Miss Laudi's, Mrs Cochrane's & Miss McBride's rooms) or the 1st floor of English (outside Mr Fyvie's/Mrs Rankine's rooms) unless they have a class, this includes at break and lunch time as Talking Assessments will still being carried out.  Signs have been put to remind pupils and to advise on noise level, please respect these requests as the assessment is worth 30% of pupils final grade.

Yesterday was a successful day for the staff in the football match against the S6 team with a comfortable 5-1 victory. Mr Gilholm slotted a penalty away, Mr Wands scored a screamer into the top corner from the edge of the box and Mr Crawford completed a perfect hat-trick. The S6's got a late consolation goal before the referee blew the final whistle. Thanks to all staff and pupils for taking part and to those who came down to support the game.

Have you considered signing up to the MySQA Service?  This allows you the opportunity to receive examination results by SMS or email on the day rather than waiting for the post.  You can also confirm that your personal details are up-to-date including your address.

The SQA website (includes past papers and marking instructions) and Understanding Standards website are also useful resources for examination preparation.

Pupils were also issued a leaflet about MySQA. By signing up to this pupils will receive their results by text or email by 8am on 8th August.

Everyone is responsible for this, and accountable for their team. Access is available at break, lunch and after school if additional time is required on PCs. Your video should be ready for display on the classroom projector. Remember to save/export your video appropriately.

I would like to say a massive congratulations to the S1 boys football team on their victory in the quarter finals of the East and Midlothian U13's cup who came away from Beeslack High School with a 5-1 triumph. To extend their unbeaten record, Knox will face Ross High in the semi final.

On the Friday of this week, to raise funds in aid of Red Nose Day, a dress down day is in place and a bake sale will be held in the social area.  Along with this, there will be 'Pie the Teacher' and 'Wax the Teacher'

During this week there will be 'Red Noses' available to purchase from the Library, Mrs Montgomery's Classroom and the School Office.

For this good cause remember to bring money to donate and partake in these events.

Congratulation to the Knox Academy S1-S3 swim team that took part at the East Lothian Swim Championships on Wednesday.

Knox finished 2nd overall just behind a very strong Ross High team.

Special mention to the S1's trio of Lucia Bivar-Segurado, Aidan Ballantyne and Finlay Ralston who put in a fine display of swimming and came away as S1 Champions.

The BBC School Report team has successfully completed their submission for News Report Day.  The S2 pupils have been working extremely conscientiously to produce a news report on the growth of Haddington and its effect on the community including impact on the local hospital and high school.

The team consisted of: Louise Allan, Marylin Briggs, Hugo Elder, Carrie Evans, Eilidh Graham and Kyle Sutherland, 

Their news broadcast can be viewed on the BBC School Report area of the website.
