S3 pupils have a busy time ahead - work experience comes straight after activities week, so we are preparing pupils now to do their final bits and pieces before they hit the workplace!  You can help at home by going through the final checklist summary attached below and checking that all the "t"s are crossed and "i"s are dotted.  Please give me a call if you need any more information. Spare log books and supervisor report forms can be printed off from the website or picked up from the school office.

Good luck to all S3 pupils!

All S1 pupils have been given an opportunity to take part in a FREE Workshop at the Museum of Flight on Thursday 26th of May.  Those who want to take part will leave school at 0930 and return at 1500 in time for period 6.

The "Skylab" workshop will involve working with engineers to make model gliders and elastic band powered aeroplanes. They will have an opportunity to test their models and if weather permits there will be a short display by a real aircraft.  The pupils will also have time to look round the museum.

This morning S1 pupils were issued with a letter and consent form.  They have been asked to return a tear-off slip and the consent form by Friday 13th of May.  (Please note that the letter states a return date of Wednesday 13th instead of Friday 13th - apologies for this.)

The letter and consent form can also be download through these links.

This composition started off as a piece for piano. My inspiration to compose it came from hearing James Galway playing ‘Annie’s Song’ by John Denver on the flute. After listening to it over and over again and falling in love with this song, I decided to try and compose my own short piece for piano, using the main melody as my starting point but altering it to make it my own. A good friend of mine suggested that I should try composing it for an orchestra, and I thought why not? I can always try and see where it takes me! Over time, I came up with new ideas, creating new rhythms and experimenting with them on different instruments. I wanted to ensure that all parts of the orchestra played the main melody or important themes at some point during the piece as I wanted to share out the parts as equally as possible.

I’m very pleased with the way it has worked and despite the school orchestra having only three short rehearsals, I think that they played really well. I would like to thank Mr Johnston for allowing me to have my composition performed by the school orchestra and I’d also like to thank the orchestra for taking the time to rehearse.

Thank you also, to everyone who came to watch the performance and for those of you who couldn’t make it, I hope you enjoy listening to the recording!
